Kenyon claims second at NCAA DIII Fall Preview

WILLIAMSBURG, VA– The Kenyon College men's golf team traveled down south to Kingsmill Resort for the NCAA DIII Fall Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University. The Owls took second place in a field of 18 teams from throughout the country. 18 of the top 20 teams in the Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches' Poll made up the field for a star-studded event. Kenyon finished at 836 (-16) through 54 holes at the 6,732 yard course.

Kenyon's top finisher was Connor Gray finishing in T7 position posting a 209 (-4) for the tournament. Gray positioned himself nicely on day one shooting back 67 (-4) through the first 36 holes. Gray's 12 birdies in 54 holes put him well ahead of the field in his top 10 finish.

Following Gray were freshman Alex Harwood and senior Jaiden Koonar both securing a finish in T12 position shooting 210 (-3). In a field of 90 of the best players in the country both Harwood and Koonar stood out. Harwood finished with a 68 (-3) in his first 18 before finishing up day one with a 69 (-2). Koonar finished the tournament in dominant fashion, carding a 67 (-4), good for the lowest round of the day.

Adrian Jordan and Rafael Frias IV secured the final two finishes for the Owls. Jordan started hot shooting 69 (-2), playing his final nine holes at three under par. He remained consistent throughout the Fall Preview carding a 214 (+1) for a T28 finish. Frias IV followed Jordan closely, shooting 70 (-1), 72 (+1) and 73 (+2) down in Virginia. His consistency provided a model for success for the Owls with Frias IV posting two counting scores.

The Owls will look to remain hot on October 2, where they play in a Division I field at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond, IN.
