BEXLEY, Ohio — The Kenyon College volleyball team picked up its third consecutive sweep Wednesday evening, defeating Capital University 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) at the Capital Center Performance Arena.
Kenyon (5-9) controlled the match from the outset, hitting .311 as a team while holding Capital (3-9) to a .245 attack percentage. The Owls never trailed by more than a few points in any set and closed out each frame to secure their third straight victory.
Olivia Gumz led the Kenyon attack with 14 kills on 36 attempts, while
Abby Stenger added 13 kills and hit .333.
Sophia Menke also delivered a strong all-around performance, recording 10 kills on 15 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage. Menke added three service aces and three blocks to finish with a team-high 16.5 points.
Hannah Schwemm directed the Kenyon offense with 37 assists, while
Arianna Flota paced the defensive effort with 13 digs.
Makena Rodriguez and
Eva LeRoux each contributed eight digs.
Kenyon opened the match with a 25-21 victory before taking the second set 25-22. The Owls completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third set. Kenyon recorded 45 kills and committed just 12 attack errors across the three sets.
Kenyon returns to action Saturday, September 26, at The College of Wooster to start NCAC play.
