Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls draw with Yellow Jackets, 1-1

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Kenyon College women's soccer team (2-1-4) faced off in a non-conference game against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets (3-4-1), which resulted in a hard-fought 1-1 draw. What began as a fairly one-sided affair turned into a well-contested, highly exciting match-up.

Against a Baldwin Wallace squad whose opponents average 1.71 goals per game, the Owls attack, that has led this team to success all season, was on full display in the first half.

Wasting no time, Rafaela Plasa would get the Owls on the board in the sixth minute of the game to put Kenyon in the lead, 1-0. Plasa, scoring her fourth of the season, netted the goal on a beautiful corner kick from Maia Pasco.

The Owls dominated possession in the first half, keeping the ball in their offensive third. Baldwin Wallace's goalkeeper, Mackenzie Butcher, had her hands full as Kenyon put up eight shot attempts and five on goal in the match's opening forty-five minutes.

Both teams competed hard in the second-half of the game. The vigor Baldwin Wallace showed on the field and sideline was apparent as they were finally able to answer back at the 67:35 minute mark when Yellow Jackets' forward, Leah Snell, slipped one in near post.

The Owls responded with greater intensity on both defensive and offensive plays. There were many close chances, including another dangerous corner kick from Pasco in the 77th minute and what looked at first like the game-winner from Addison Szollosi in the match's final minute, but was ultimately called offside.

Kenyon outshot the Yellow Jackets, 17-8, and put 10 of those on frame. Both Owl goalkeepers, Ariel Kite and Lila Michael, recorded a save each, indicating the strength of the Kenyon defense to limit the opposing team's attacks.

The Owls return this Friday, September 25 at 3:30 p.m. from Mavec Field to take on the Otterbein University Cardinals.
