GAMBIER, Ohio — Maia Pasco scored in the 21st minute and the Kenyon College women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 victory over Otterbein University Friday afternoon at Mavec Field.
The Owls improved to 3-1-4 on the season with the win.
Kenyon controlled much of the match offensively, out shooting the Cardinals 17-8 and putting nine shots on goal compared to four for Otterbein. The Owls also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks and maintained 55% of the possession.
Kenyon broke through at the 20:42 mark when Pasco found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Mia Voutsinas provided the assist, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead.
Pasco finished with a team-high eight shots, including four on target. Voutsinas added four shots, three of which were on goal, while Emily Copeland recorded three shots.
The Cardinals generated several opportunities throughout the match, but Kenyon goalkeeper Ariel Kite turned aside all four Otterbein shots on target to earn the shutout. Otterbein goalkeeper Isabella Neal made seven saves.
Kenyon took a 1-0 lead into halftime after holding a 10-6 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes. The Owls continued to apply pressure in the second half, adding seven shots while limiting Otterbein to just two.
Otterbein pushed for an equalizer late, but Kite and the Kenyon defense held firm. Kenyon's final attempt came from Kelayna Patrick with just over a minute remaining, but Kite made the save to preserve the shutout.
The Owls return to action Saturday, September 26 at Bluffton University.
