Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls' strong offense blows by Bluffton

BLUFFTON, OH — After a tightly contested, yet victorious, homecoming weekend match against Otterbein, the Kenyon College (4-1-4) women's soccer team looked to build on their success in a non-conference match against Bluffton University (6-4). The Owls offensively dominated and grabbed their fourth win of the season against a capable Beavers squad with a 4-1 victory.

The scoring began almost immediately for the Owls, with a goal punched in by Emily Copeland at the five-minute mark. After a foul was drawn in the box, Copeland stepped up to take the penalty kick and sailed it into the top corner.

Possession went back and forth for a bit, until Kenyon managed to add onto their lead, with Addison Szollosi capitalizing on a brilliant header, assisted by Fiona Dougherty.

A 2-0 lead at the half brought the Beavers back to the drawing board. They entered the second half energized and quickly answered back three minutes into the second half, cutting Kenyon's lead in half.

The Owls attack was unfazed by this potential change in momentum, though, continually applying pressure on the Beavers defense and scoring twice more in the contest to achieve a 4-1 victory. Rafaela Plasa and Dougherty both recorded goals for Kenyon in the second half and scoring in the match was over by the fifty-five minute mark as a result of some tightening defense on both sides.

The Owls' offensive prowess was very apparent from the final stat line, as they recorded a total of 26 shots, with 16 on goal. Although Kenyon was able to make the most of its chances, Bluffton's skill in goalkeeping was apparent with Kyla Garber and Madison Kutscher both managing six saves.

Kenyon's Nina Nicoletti also recorded her first two saves of the season in goal, and the Kenyon defense as a whole did well to keep many chances away from the Beavers offense.

The Kenyon Owls will be back in action on Saturday, October 3rd at 12 p.m. for their first conference match of the season facing a first-place Denison squad.
