Tigers take Ladies out of NCAC tournament picture

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The scenario for the Kenyon College women's soccer team was simple: a win Saturday at Wittenberg University would result in a trip to the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The host Tigers had other designs, though, and spoiled the Ladies' postseason hopes by handing them a 2-0 loss.

The defeat dropped Kenyon to 3-4-1 in conference play, leaving the team in sixth place in the final standings. The Ladies also slipped below .500 overall with a 7-8-2 mark for the season.

Wittenberg (11-3-3, 7-0-1 NCAC), playing for the opportunity to enter next week's NCAC tournament as the top seed, pounced early with a score 1:58 into the game. The Tigers later added an insurance goal in the 32nd minute and let their defense do the rest.

Wittenberg only held a slight, 16-11 advantage in shots, but five saves from its two goalkeepers preserved the shutout.

The Ladies also deployed two goalies and freshman Alissa Poolpol kept Kenyon in the game throughout the second half by making five saves in 45 minutes between the pipes.
