Owls draw the Blue Streaks

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH — Another chapter in the women's soccer saga between Kenyon College and John Carroll University unfolded Tuesday night, ending in a 1-1 draw behind an invigorating battle from both squads.

The two teams played each other very closely last year, with Kenyon winning the regular season match and John Carroll beating the Owls in last year's first round of the NCAC tournament. Both of those games ended, 1-0.

It is a testament to the quality of play from both teams that tonight's match ended, 1-1.

Tonight, they were neck and neck in shot attempts with Kenyon's 14 and John Carroll's 13, with the Blue Streaks gaining the edge with saves (7 to Kenyon's 4) and corner kick opportunities (4 to Kenyon's 2). The Owls counteracted this with their relentless attack, leading the Blue Streaks in shots on goal 8 to 5.

The Blue Streaks' lone goal of the match came at the thirty-four minute mark in an upper-ninety header from first-year Ella Wilgor, marking just her second goal of the year.

At the end of the first half, despite their five shots on goal and a very close attempt from first-year Maia Pasco, the Owls were down 0-1.

That was until Emily Copeland secured a draw for the Owls with a brilliant goal at the sixty-ninth minute. Copeland was able to turn on her defender, take a touch into space, and fight the top right corner from well outside the 18-yard box.

Both teams attempted to capitalize on numerous chances in the last twenty minutes of play, but neither were able to do so behind some great defense and clutch saves by Kenyon's Lila Michael and John Carroll's Madison Skeese.

While a win tonight would have clinched the Owls a spot in this year's tournament with DePauw's simultaneous 0-3 defeat to Denison, tonight's draw puts Kenyon on the verge of another tournament appearance.

Having not lost a match since September 13th, Kenyon will be back at home this Saturday, with a spot in the 2026 NCAC tournament up for grabs. The team will take on DePauw University at 1:00 p.m.
