GAMBIER, Ohio – Stifling defense from the Kenyon College field hockey team set the tone against Earlham College Friday in Gambier. The Quakers only attempted two shots in the game and the Ladies cruised to a North Coast Athletic Conference victory by a 3-0 final.

Kenyon (7-4, 6-2 NCAC) did all of its damage in the first half then turned things over to its defense. Sophomore Julie Freedman scored twice, first off of a Cecilia Depman in the fourth minute and on an unassisted goal at 27:42, giving her a team-high six for the season. In between Freedman's two tallies, senior Rebecca Spradlin set up sophomore Sammy Johnston in the 13th minute.

With the Ladies racking up 18 shots to Earlham's (0-11, 0-9 NCAC) two, the final margin of victory could have been much greater than three. But Quaker goalie Emma Treece did her best to keep things respectable with a 15-save performance.

Kenyon will play its final non-conference contest of the season against Washington and Jefferson College Sunday at 1 p.m. on McBride Field.
