GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Brian Lebowitz rang up 28 points Saturday and the Kenyon College Lords basketball team nearly led wire-to-wire during a 73-62 victory over the Keuka College Storm in the consolation game of the Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament.

The 28 points for Lebowitz were a career high, topping his previous single-game best of 24 points that he tallied twice last season. Lebowitz, a junior, constructed his final scoring total by shooting 8-of-16 from the field and a near-perfect 12-of-13 at the free throw line. If that wasn't enough, Lebowitz also grabbed eight rebounds, blocked four shots, and had three steals. At the end of the game, Lebowitz was named to the All-Tournament team.

After Kenyon sophomore Jonathan Amador opened the game with a three-pointer, Lebowitz scored seven of the next nine Kenyon points to push the Lords (1-1) out to an early 12-6 lead. Keuka's only lead of the game was at 4-3. Later in the half, the Storm got as close as two points three different times, and even pulled within one point once, but they could not overcome the Lords, who went into intermission with a 38-31 advantage.

Keuka (0-2) started another rally in the second half and tied the game up at 46-46 on a three-point basket from Teddy Tuggles with 12:47 remaining. Again, the Storm kept things close, but never recaptured the lead.

With 3:07 left, Kenyon put together a final surge to close out the contest. Leading by just three (61-58), the Lords got a  jumper from Lebowitz and then began a parade to the free throw line, where they connected on 7-of-8 freebies to move ahead 70-58 with just 32 seconds showing on the clock.

Overall, Kenyon was 26-of-35 at the free throw line (74.3 percent). Junior Julian Pavlin was 7-of-10 at the stripe and finished with 11 points, while classmate Ikenna Nwadibia knocked down 6-of-10 free throws and finished with 14 points. Nwadibia also snared 12 rebounds to register his first double-double of the season.

The Lords complemented their offensive numbers with equally impressive defensive stats. They had eight steals, six blocked shots, and forced Keuka into 24 turnovers. Those 24 turnovers led to 27 Kenyon points.

Up next for Kenyon is its first home game of the season. The Lords will host Grove City College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tomsich Arena.
