GAMBIER, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University Spartans used a distinct height advantage to deal the host Kenyon College Lords a 73-63 loss Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action. The loss dropped Kenyon to 2-2 overall, while the win pushed Case's record to 3-1.

Four of the Spartans' starting five measured in at 6-6 or taller and each member of that quartet scored eight points or more. Austin Fowler led Case with 18 points and eight rebounds, while David Thompson followed up with 12 points and eight boards.

To its credit, Kenyon was aggressive down low and did what it could to combat the size difference. The Lords were only narrowly out-rebounded (47-45) and held a surprising 42-24 advantage in points in the paint. The Spartans' height, however, came into play multiple times on the defensive side of the court, where they chalked up a total of nine blocked shots.

Kenyon also tried to work the perimeter game into its plan, but the threes were just not falling for the Lords, who went 3-of-15 from behind the arc. Additionally, Kenyon shot just 25 percent from the floor (8-of-32) in the first half and dug itself a 31-20 halftime hole.

In the second half, the Lords let juniors Ikenna Nwadibia and Brian Lebowitz go right at the Spartans. Nwadibia scored seven of Kenyon's first 12 points in the half. He capped off the run by coming up with a steal and a three-point play that pushed the Lords to within three points (36-33) with 15:51 on the clock.

Nwadibia ended up scoring 14 of his team-leading 23 points in the second half. He also tied Lebowitz with a game-high 12 rebounds, which completed his third consecutive double-double. Lebowitz added 16 points for his second straight double-double and Julian Pavlin, another Kenyon junior, chipped in with ten points and six rebounds.

Riding the momentum of the run early in the second half, the Lords managed to pull within three points on two more occasions, but never got any closer. Case went on a 15-7 surge through the midway point of the half and opened up a 58-44 advantage with 7:23 remaining. The Lords whittled the Spartans' lead back down to six, but there were just 39 seconds left in the game.

Kenyon has a couple days off and then will head to New Concord, Ohio for a non-conference contest at Muskingum University.
