Box Score
ALBION, Mich. – Junior
Ikenna Nwadibia scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half Saturday at Albion College to lead the Kenyon College men's basketball team to a 70-65 victory over the Britons. Eighteen points from sophomore
Jonathan Amador and some crucial three-pointers by junior
Julian Pavlin also contributed to the Lords' win.
Kenyon trailed 32-29 at halftime and saw Albion increase its advantage to eight (38-30) early in the second period. After the Britons' lead reached its biggest margin of the night, Pavlin snapped the net with the first of a trio of three-pointers and Nwadibia followed with four-straight points to reduce the gap down to 38-37 at the 15:41 mark.
The surge was short lived, tough, with Albion (3-4) jumping back out to a seven-point cushion over the next 2:32. Nwadibia mixed in a pair of jumpers around three-balls from Amador and sophomore
Dan Voigt to again make it a one-point game with 9:24 left.
The teams traded a couple of ties before Nwadibia gave the Lords their first lead of the second half (53-52) on a pair of free throws. He also converted a three-point play with 6:25 remaining to push Kenyon to a 56-53 advantage.
The Britons rallied with four unanswered points to go back on top, 57-56. Then, Pavlin took over for the Lords. He drilled a three-pointer to put Kenyon back in the lead, 59-57. When Albion again tied the score at 59-59, another Pavlin shot from beyond the arc broke the stalemate with 3:05 showing on the game clock.
From that point on, the Lords would not trail again. Nwadibia scored seven of Kenyon's final eight points to wrap up the victory.
The Lords (5-3) return to North Coast Athletic Conference action Tuesday night when they tangle with rival Denison University in Granville.
