CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (May 4, 2012) The DePauw University Tigers scored five late runs Friday afternoon at V.A. Memorial Stadium and held on for 5-1 North Coast Athletic Conference tournament win over the Kenyon College Lords. The loss eliminated the Lords from tournament play and finalized their overall season record at 27-12.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Kenyon drew first blood with a run in the third. With one out, freshman Jake Dunn laced a triple to right center. The next batter, junior Andrew Dunn, brought the run home with a single down the leftfield line.

On the mound, Kenyon junior Tyler Dierke was cruising along. He gave up just two hits, while holding DePauw scoreless through the first four innings. In the fifth, however, the Tiger batters started making the right adjustments. With two outs, Sam Swafford doubled off Dierke. Two batters later, leadoff hitter Zach Starr singled home Swafford to knot things up.

The back-breaker for the Lords came in the sixth inning, when DePauw's Robbie Stein ripped a two-run home run over the right field fence. That's all the Tigers needed for the win, but they did add a pair of insurance runs off Kenyon relievers in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Although it wasn't the ending that they had hoped for, the Lords did put together one of the best seasons in program history. Not only did they tie the record for wins in a season (27), they also established the College's single-season team record for home runs (25) and the second-highest team marks for batting average (.339) and slugging percentage (.464). Additionally, the Lords won the NCAC East Division with a program-best 13-3 record in conference play.
