Box Score
GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 15, 2012) Denison University's depth dominated the Kenyon College men's basketball team Wednesday night in Granville. The Big Red bench scored 50 points in a 73-55 decision over the Lords, who now face a must-win game Saturday at Allegheny College.
Kenyon will enter the regular-season finale in Meadville with a one-game lead over the Gators for the eighth and final spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. However, the Lords' (10-14, 4-11 NCAC) path to the postseason requires a victory. Should Allegheny (5-19, 3-12 NCAC) prevail in that contest and finish with an identical conference mark as Kenyon, the Gators would be awarded the last tournament berth based on the NCAC's tiebreaking procedures.
The Lords struck first Wednesday in Granville, but once the lead flipped at the 16:33 mark in the first half Denison would not trail again. Kenyon pulled back within two, 19-17, after a steal and fast-break dunk from sophomore Ikenna Nwadibia with 4:37 remaining, but the Big Red opened an eight-point advantage, 31-23, by halftime.
Denison sprinted out to a 39-25 lead in the three minutes following halftime only to see the Lords six back, 45-39, by the midway point of the period. The Big Red spent the next five minutes on an 18-6 run that put the game beyond Kenyon's reach.
Dimonde Hale and Brett Tiberi combined for 26 points off the Denison bench. Hale had 15 on 6-of-10 shooting while Tiberi hit a trio of three-pointers on his way to an 11-point night. In contrast, the Lords' nine reserves produced a total of 19 points.
Nwadibia and sophomore Brian Lebowitz matched Hale for the game-high with 15 points each. Nwadibia got his on 7-of-12 shooting and Lebowitz hit 7-of-14 attempts from the floor. Lebowitz also led the team with eight rebounds.
