Kenyon Invitational Results
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Lords tennis team, the national runners up at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, returned to the courts Saturday and Sunday as the hosts of the Kenyon College Invitational for their first action of the 2012-13 campaign. The event featured three doubles and five singles brackets of individual play, and members of the Lords' squad factored prominently into the final results.
Two of the three doubles brackets featured all-Kenyon affairs in the first-place finals. In the “A” doubles, senior
C.J. Williams and freshman
Sam Geier outlasted seniors
Paul Burgin and
Kevin Ye, 9-8, to take the top spot. The “B” bracket saw sophomore
Wade Heerboth and freshman
Robert Turlington double up senior
Josh Stiles and sophomore
Tim Rosensteel, 8-4, for first place.
It was more of the same in singles play, where six Lords advanced to the final match in three of the five brackets. The “B” frame saw Turlington and sophomore
Jacob Huber make the final. Rosensteel and sophomore
Davis Thrailkill each won three times without a loss in the “C” bracket, as did senior
Jared Goldstein and sophomore
Andrew Herring in the “D” set.
Case Western Reserve University followed suit in the “A” singles with Will Drougas besting teammate Christopher Krimbill, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, for first place. The Lords packed the next three spots in the bracket, though, with Burgin, Heerboth and Williams slotting third through fifth.
Kenyon now turns its attention to the four-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championship, which begins Friday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
