INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The four-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championship concluded Monday morning with the Kenyon College Lords represented in both the doubles and singles finals. Sophomore Wade Heerboth and freshman Robert Turlington won the doubles bracket while senior Paul Burgin came up just shy in his bid for the singles title.

Heerboth and Turlington took down Earlham College's Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess by a 6-4, 7-5 decision in the final round. Along the way to the championship, the Kenyon duo also dispatched of Washington (MO) University's Adam and Ross Putterman, the No. 7-ranked duo in Division III and the tournament's top-seeded tandem, by an 8-6 margin in the quarterfinal round. Heerboth and Turlington bested another Kenyon pairing, senior C.J. Williams and freshman Sam Geier, in the semifinals, 8-6, to advance to the title match.

The singles bracket played out according to the seedings with No. 2 Burgin pitted against No. 1 Adam Putterman. Putterman, who finished the 2012 season as the fourth-ranked player in Division III, bested Burgin, 6-2, 6-3, to take home the Central Region title. While the result wasn't what Burgin had hoped, it didn't detract from his outstanding weekend. Burgin won his first six matches in convincing fashion to put himself into the title round.

Several other Lords followed Burgin's lead and made deep runs through the singles bracket. In fact, senior Kevin Ye, Heerboth, Turlington and freshman Tristan Kaye gave Kenyon five players in the round of 16. Turlington bowed out in the quarterfinals and Burgin bounced Heerboth, 6-1, 6-3, in the semis.

The Lords' success didn't end there, though. Sophomore Colin Haas, who lost his first round match-up, fought his way through the back draw with six-straight wins to come out on top of the consolation bracket. Geier won the 'B' singles championship with a perfect 6-0 record and received the Tournament Sportsmanship Award.
