Box Score
GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College junior
Julian Pavlin sank four of his first five field goal attempts Saturday and drained all four of his free throws during the first half of the Lords' basketball game against the visiting Wabash College Little Giants. His hot hand led to 13 first-half points and put the Lords on the path to a 72-55 victory.
The win over Wabash was Kenyon's first since the 2008-09 season and it pushed the Lords' records to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The win also allowed Kenyon to hurdle the Little Giants (4-12, 2-5 NCAC) in the conference standings.
Pavlin eventually cooled off in the second half, but the Lords never did. The Kenyon men cruised to a 38-22 halftime lead and built up second-half margins as large as 23 points. Pavlin ended up finishing with 17 points and sophomore center
John Bray added 16 on a 6-of-8 shooting performance in the lane.
Ikenna Nwadibia,
Jonathan Amador and
Brian Lebowitz contributed eight points each.
Kenyon dominated the boards, outrebounding Wabash 43-29. Lebowitz snared ten of those rebounds, while
Connor Garrity grabbed a career-best seven. The Lords also excelled at the free throw line, where they sank 19-of-22 shots (86.4 percent). Pavlin was a perfect 6-of-6 at the line and Lebowitz was 4-of-4.
At the other end of the floor, the Lords defense was rock solid once again. The Purple and White held Wabash to just 32.7 percent shooting (17-of-52). Over its last three games, Kenyon has held its opponents to a combined 36.0 percent shooting (61-of-169).
Up next for the Lords is a Wednesday trip to The College of Wooster, where they'll take on the No. 8-ranked Fighting Scots. Earlier this season, Wooster toppled Kenyon, 89-62, in Gambier.
