WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's basketball team took on the difficult task of playing the No. 8-ranked College of Wooster Fighting Scots at Timken Gymnasium Wednesday night. Despite another strong effort from junior
Ikenna Nwadibia, the Lords ended up on the wrong side of an 86-52 final score.
Nwadibia's performance included game-highs of 16 points and seven rebounds. He continues to lead the Lords and ranks third in the conference in both scoring average (16.4 ppg) and rebounding average (8.7 rpg).
Those numbers, however, did nothing to slow down the Scots, who raced out to early leads of 9-2 and 21-7. The Wooster men ended up shooting 53.1 percent overall (26-of-49) and an equally impressive 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three-point range. At those rates, the Scots never let Kenyon get closer than a dozen points the rest of the way.
After struggling through the first half, Kenyon did pick up its play in the second 20 minutes. With some spot-on shooting from Nwadibia,
Brian Lebowitz, and
Tim Connolly the Lords finished the game going 13-of-14 at the free throw line. Nwadibia ended up draining all eight of his freebies. Lebowitz, who hit a pair of free throws, also grabbed five rebounds and, for the third straight contest, Kenyon won the battle of the boards, 38-29.
Nwadibia was the only Kenyon player to reach double-digit scoring. Lebowitz wound up with eight points, while
John Bray and
Jonathan Amador contributed six apiece. The Scots had three players ring up double-digit scoring outputs and were led by 15 points from Kenny DeBoer.
The win gave Wooster (16-2, 9-0 NCAC) a season sweep of Kenyon (9-9, 3-6 NCAC), which fell to the Scots, 89-62, in Gambier earlier this season.
