SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Despite leading by as many as 12 points in the second half, Wittenberg University had to sweat out Wednesday night's North Coast Athletic Conference clash against the Kenyon College men's basketball team. The Lords were within three points inside the final minute but the Tigers kept them from completing the comeback in their 71-64 victory.
Kenyon relied on its top three scorers to get the game down to a single possession. With the Lords trailing 64-55,
Ikenna Nwadibia hit a jumper,
Julian Pavlin canned a three-pointer, and
Brian Lebowitz converted a layup in a seven-point run that ended with 2:20 left. Over the next two minutes, all of the scoring occurred at the free-throw line before Scott Masin's lay-in with 23 seconds left put the game out of Kenyon's reach.
After a back-and-forth first half left the Tigers up, 36-32, Pavlin opened the second period with a three-pointer to make it a one-point game. However, Wittenberg bounced back with a 13-2 run over the next 5:30 to put the Lords in a 12-point hole.
Pavlin capped his night with 16 points, while Nwadibia and Lebowitz each tallied 14. Masin led all scorers with 21 points for the Tigers.
The Lords return to the road for another NCAC clash Saturday at 4 p.m.
