MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Kenyon College Ladies struggled to get its offense going in the nightcap of Saturday's soccer doubleheader from the Robertson Athletic Complex. The host Allegheny Gators kept the Ladies scoreless through 90 minutes and limited them to just a handful of shots.
Alissa Poolpol earned her first start between the posts and was busy making 12 saves, despite the loss.
Poolpol was kept on her heels all day long with the Gator offense firing off shots in bunches. She saw 11 shots in each half, making seven saves in the first and five in the second half. Entering the match, Poopol had seen time in six contests and allowed only two goals on 14 shots on goal faced.
After getting a taste of the field in action against Capital earlier this week due to injuries up and down the Kenyon lineup, Lauren Wolfe suited up for a spot as one of the Ladies' forwards, hoping to add to the offense. She was one of four Ladies to get a shot off against the Allegheny defense and one of only three to land one on goal.
Both teams were held without a goal through the first half though the shot margin severely favored Allegheny, 11-2. It was not until the 69th minute of the match did the scoreboard see activity when the Gators' Michelle Holcomb put one in the back of the net. Holcomb received a one-touch, through ball right out in front of the Kenyon goal from Jessie Thiessen where she then finished the job and gave the Gators a 1-0 lead.
Allegheny (5-4-2, 2-0 NCAC) iced the game with another goal with 4:46 remaining on a deflection from two yards out. The tip-in was made by Alison Buzzard.
The Gators maintained control throughout the contest by holding the advantage in shots taken (22-4), shots on goal (14-3), and corner kicks (9-0).
Kenyon (2-8-1, 0-2-0 NCAC) will gear up for next week's conference game at The College of Wooster. The Fighting Scots and the Ladies will kick off an NCAC soccer doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
