GAMBIER, Ohio  – The 2013 women's soccer season came to a close for Kenyon College but not before fireworks were cast in the 109th minute of the match by freshman Maggie Smith. In a match primarily controlled by Kenyon, the 23rd and final shot was the only one that mattered as the Ladies ended the season on a high note and a 1-0, double-overtime win over Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon.

Smith was a workhorse for the Ladies all match long, recording nine shot attempts to lead the Ladies' offense. She narrowly missed ending the game in the first overtime session when with two minutes to go her shot sailed just high of the crossbar. Her resilience would pay off in the second overtime.

Oberlin goalkeeper Kate Frost was set to send in a long ball but her boot did not get enough air and Smith intercepted the pass outside to top-right corner of the box. Before three different Yeowoman defenders converged on the freshman, Smith managed to loft a shot into the air that carried all the way to the cage. As gravity brought the ball back down to the pitch, it continued to sail inside the crossbar and beyond of the outstretched arms of Frost. The clock stopped with 1:15 remaining and the Ladies rushed the field in the thrill of a 1-0 victory.

Kenyon's defense stifled Oberlin's offensive attack, limiting the Yeowomen to just six shots as opposed to the Ladies' 23. Only one of those made its way on goal, where senior goalkeeper Lauren Wolfe was there to make the stop.

Saturday's match marked the end of the Ladies' season and the conclusion of five players' collegiate careers. As part of the Senior Day festivities, the Ladies recognized their senior class at halftime. Wolfe, Madi Kim, Catherine Lloyd, Kristina Miklavic, Katie Blake, and Alexa Vasios were honored for their contributions to the program. All entered the match at some point, while Lloyd played the entire second half.

The Ladies finish the season with an overall record of 6-9-2 and a conference ledger of 4-3-1. Kenyon finished the season winning three of their last four matches and posting a four-match unbeaten streak. Smith and Becca Romaine finished tied for the team lead in goals (7) though Romaine had the slight edge in points with 19.
