Box Score
OBERLIN, Ohio – Kenyon College junior
Ikenna Nwadibia cranked up his game in the second half once again and posted his third straight double-double while steering the Lords basketball team to a 65-50 Wednesday night win at Oberlin College. The double-double was Nwadibia's eighth of the season and the win was the Lords' fourth in a row.
Nwadibia, who finished the contest with a team-high 22 points and a season-high 14 rebounds, is making a habit of taking over games in the second half. Against Oberlin, he scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in the first half. He then poured in 15 more points and snared nine more boards in the second half. Over his last three games, including this one, Nwadibia averaged 16 points and eight rebounds in second-half play alone.
Nwadibia's late surge was needed, too. The Lords (13-9, 7-6 NCAC) trailed the Yeomen for almost the entire first half, but did manage to tie things up 27-27 at the break. When the teams returned to the floor, Nwadibia scored six points during a Kenyon 17-2 run that left the Lords with plenty of breathing room. The run spanned seven minutes and witnessed the Yeomen going scoreless for a little more than five consecutive minutes.
After that game-changing run, the Yeomen never got closer than seven points. Kenyon's defense ended up registering eight steals and five blocked shots, while holding Oberlin to just 33.3 percent shooting (19-of-57).
Additional offensive support for the Lords came from junior
Brian Lebowitz and sophomore
Jonathan Amador, who both rang up a dozen points. Another sophomore,
John Bray, contributed 11 points.
Oberlin (5-17, 3-9 NCAC) was led by 12 points from Andrew Fox and 11 points from Randy Ollie.
The Lords will now look to extend their win streak to five when they travel to Wabash College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. clash with the Little Giants. Earlier this season in Gambier, Kenyon defeated Wabash, 72-55.
