WHITEWATER RESULTS
GREEN BAY RESULTS
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Kenyon College men's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 2012-13 season with a pair of matches Saturday at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. The Lords opened with a 7-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks, but finished with a 7-0 loss to the host and Division I Phoenix.
Kenyon (1-1), currently ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, won four of six singles matches against Wisconsin-Whitewater, the No. 29-ranked team in Division III. The Lords also swept all three doubles matches. Sophomore
Michael Razumovsky and senior
C.J. Williams paired up at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 win. On their own, Razumovsky won at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1) and Williams won at No. 4 singles (6-3, 4-6, 12-10).
Kenyon's top-seeded player, senior
Paul Burgin, took the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-4 and also teamed with fellow senior
Kevin Ye to win at No. 3 doubles 8-4. The Lords' final point came from sophomore
Wade Heerboth, who rallied to win at No. 3 singles by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Against the Phoenix of Wisconsin Green Bay, the Lords were only able to manage one match victory. That win came at No. 3 doubles, where Heerboth and Ye worked for an 8-5 decision. The result didn't show up in the final team score (7-0), because at the Division I level, the team that wins the majority of the three doubles matches earns one points. At Division III level each doubles match is worth one point.
As the Lords head back toward Gambier, they make a stop Sunday to take on the University of Chicago Maroons at 11:00 a.m.
