SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – One day after taking two games from the Wittenberg University Tigers, the Kenyon College baseball team gave them right back. Sunday, the Tigers took advantage of six Lords' errors and rattled off non-conference wins by scores of 13-5 and 5-0.

The split was the second consecutive for the Lords, who last week won twice Saturday and lost twice Sunday at Oberlin College. Kenyon's overall record now stands at 16-10.

Wittenberg (14-10) went right to work in inning two of game one. The Tigers roughed up Kenyon starter Josh Jacobvitz for four quick runs. A couple of Kenyon miscues in the inning only made the situation worse, as Wittenberg sent 14 batters to the plate and scored ten runs. Because of the errors, only the first four of those ten runs were earned.

Kenyon cut that lead in half with three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. In the fourth, Andrew Dunn, Sam Gillespie, and Zack Karson each came through with an RBI. In the fifth, Jesse Weiss doubled home Matt Wagnitz. Weiss then moved to second on a ground out and later came around to score on a wild pitch.

Unfortunately for the Lords, that would be it for the offense. In game two, Wittenberg starter Frank Sullivan nearly threw a complete game shutout. Jonathan Long came on in the seventh inning to record the final two outs. Sullivan allowed the Lords just three hits and three walks.

Mike Jeffers, Kenyon's game-two starter, also pitched well, but fell victim to more errors. Jeffers hurled a little more than five innings and gave up five runs, only one of which was earned. He struck out three and held the Tigers to five hits and walk.

Offensively, junior Nate Lotze led the Lords once again. After putting together three hits and seven RBI in Saturday's games, Lotze had two more hits and a run scored Sunday. Weiss was the only other Kenyon player to come up with two hits in the doubleheader.

Kenyon will return to conference action next weekend when it heads to Allegheny College for another four-game set.
