ALLEGHENY RESULTS | OHIO WESLEYAN RESULTS
GAMBIER, Ohio – For the second time this season the Kenyon Lords men's tennis team split up to play two matches in a single day, and once again they came away with two wins. The Lords took care of business on the road against Ohio Wesleyan University, 9-0, to close out the regular season on an 11-match win streak. A second squad of Lords held down the fort at their home outdoor courts with an 8-1 victory over Allegheny College.
After sweeping through doubles play, the crew of Lords singles players combined to allow only four points and never went farther than two sets with any given opponent. Michael Razumovsky took over the No. 1 singles spot and joined Davis Thrailkill as victors by 6-0, 6-0 decision. Garnering additional singles wins for the Lords were Jacob Huber (6-0, 6-1), Sam Geier (retired), Robert Turlington (6-1, 6-0), Davis Thrailkill (6-2, 6-0), and Colin Haas (6-0, 6-0).
Back on the outdoor courts at Kenyon, the Lords rolled out three quick wins in doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Josh Stiles and Andrew Herring combined for the Lords' first win of the day, an 8-4 decision over Thomas Manning and Sam Stephenson. They were followed by wins from the pairings of Paul Burgin and Tim Rosensteel plus Kevin Ye and Wade Heerboth.
Elevated to the No. 4 singles spot, Ye displayed great resilience in a come-from-behind win over Charlie Murphy to close out the match. After dropping the first set to Murphy, 3-6, Ye fought back to clinch the second set (7-6) and force a decisive third set. By that point, the senior got on a roll and completed the turnaround to win the set and the match, 10-2.
Burgin clinched the match with his 6-1, 6-1 victory over Patrick Cole in the top-flight singles match providing Kenyon with its fifth straight point. Also taking in wins in singles play were Wade Heerboth, Tristan Kaye, and Herring.
Ye, Stiles, and Burgin, Kenyon's all-time winningest player, all played in their final matches on their home court. They join Jared Goldstein and Williams to comprise this year's senior class who look to represent the Lords at the conference championship and beyond.
The victories close out a run of 11 consecutive regular season wins as the Lords (20-3, 4-0 NCAC East), ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, head into the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship. The tournament will be hosted by Oberlin College from April 26-28.
