SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.  – The Kenyon College baseball team concluded its weather-altered series with the Allegheny College Gators on Tuesday night in the friendly confines of Jack Critchfield Stadium on the campus of Slippery Rock University. The neutral site played host to a pair of well-played ball games that resulted in a split between the two teams. The Gators battled to take a 4-3 win in an eight-inning game to open the twinbill prior to the Lords recovering and delivering a 5-3 win in game two.

The Lords' offense pounded out 13 hits in their 5-3 game-two victory over Allegheny. Eight of those came in the final three innings when all Kenyon's scoring took place. Paul Henshaw led the top of the fifth off with a double to left center and later came around to score of Zack Karson's run-scoring single. After the turnover of the lineup, Jake Dunn rattled off a double down the left field line to help the Lords take a 2-0 lead.

Jesse Weiss and Nate Lotze doubled the Lords' lead, 4-0, in the sixth inning. Weiss led the inning with a single and came around to score on a host of wild pitches by the Gators' pitching staff. Lotze walked, stole a base, and came around to score two batters later on a ground out to second resulting in a fielder's choice.

Allegheny plated three in the bottom half of the inning on account of a pair of Kenyon errors in the field, but Josh Jacobvitz (3-3) held the Gators without a run the rest of the way to ensure victory. He tossed a seamless one-two-three seventh inning, including one of his five strikeouts on the day to shut the door on Allegheny and earn the Lords a split.

Five different Lords recorded multiple hits in game two, four of whom also tallied a RBI.

The Lords overcame an early two-run deficit in game one, created by Chris Beaton's double that scored both runs in the second inning off of Kenyon starting pitcher Mike Jeffers. The Lords chipped at that lead when John Nahra delivered a run-scoring single in the fifth. Henshaw came off the bench to pinch hit with a runner on third and tied the game by roping a single to left field, scoring Kyle Hardacker on the play.

Kenyon continued their rally by scoring their third unanswered run in the top of the seventh when Jesse Weiss knocked a one-out, RBI single to plate Jake Dunn and take a 3-2 lead. After Jeffers walked the leadoff man of the final inning, Tyler Dierke came out of the bullpen to close out the game. After a hit batsman and a sacrifice bunt, the table was set for a sacrifice fly that tied the game to force extra innings.

After the Lords went scoreless in the top of the eighth, Allegheny began the home half with a leadoff double by Mike Pezzone. After a sacrifice sent him to third base, Zach Gray hit a walk-off single to seal game one by a final score of 4-3.

Kenyon (18-12, 5-7 North Coast Athletic Conference) will dig in for its final four games of the regular season this weekend against the Hiram Terriers at home. The Lords' have already clinched the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NCAC Crossover Weekend, but could improve upon that position with a sweep of the Terriers (12-18, 0-12 NCAC) and some assistance from other NCAC East results. The Lords will open the series with the Terriers on Saturday at 12 p.m.
