GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's tennis team rolled through singles play en route to their 6-3 victory over No. 13 Case Western Reserve University, Saturday afternoon.
Paul Burgin clinched the match by claiming the fourth of five victories in singles play for the Lords.
Kenyon (12-3) fell behind 2-1 after doubles play after the Spartans took wins with their top two teams. That lead was short-lived after C.J. Williams set the Lords' comeback in motion with his shutout victory over John Healey (6-0, 6-0). The Lords went on to win the first three singles flights in order with Michael Razumovsky and Wade Heerboth collected individual victories to take a 4-2 team lead.
After the Spartans' Eric Klawitter took a three-set victory over Tim Rosensteel to draw within one point of the Lords, Burgin closed the door on Case Western Reserve by defeating Christopher Krimbill in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), clinching the match. Jacob Huber cleaned up the final singles match with a 7-6, 6-3 win. It was Huber's fifth straight individual victory.
The Lords, who entered the match ranked No. 2 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), will host rival Denison University on April 10 as part of their current eight-match home stand. First service is set for 5 p.m.
