GRANVILLE, Ohio  –  The Kenyon College men's basketball team got back into a shooting groove, hitting better than half of its 48 field goal attempts to knock off rival Denison University, Wednesday night. Ikenna Nwadibia rattled off 23 points on his best shooting night of the season to lead all scorers in Kenyon's 73-61 win over the Big Red at Livingston Gymnasium.

Kenyon (7-7, 4-3 NCAC) used its dominance in the paint to outscore the Big Red 20-6 down low, aiding them toward a 10-point advantage heading into halftime. Nwadibia and Brian Lebowitz led the way with 10 points each in the first half on the offensive end. Defensively, the duo accounted for three of the team's six steals in the opening stanza. Denison (6-8, 2-5 NCAC) committed 10 turnovers in the opening half, leading to an additional 14 points for the Lords.

For much of the first half, the score stayed within a two-possession game in either direction before Kenyon started to slowly distance itself from the Big Red over the last five minutes. The Lords outscored Denison 12-5 to close out the half, capitalizing on four Big Red turnovers and a stretch where the hosts went just 2-for-8 from the field. In the meantime, Nwadibia went off for six of his 10 first-half points while Julian Pavlin also kicked in a pair in the final minute.

Coming out of the half in front 39-29, the Lords built their lead to as many as 13 points with assistance from Pavlin's lone three-pointer of the night. Denison scored eight of the next nine points to cut the lead to six points, but Nwadibia and Pavlin again teamed up to jump back up by double digits with 10 unanswered points. Leading 70-54, the Kenyon defense stepped up and kept the Big Red to just seven points for the duration of the game, leading to a 73-61 road win.

Nwadibia's 23-point game was his sixth game finishing with 20 or more points in a contest this year and marked his best shooting night of the season (8-11, .727). It was his third straight game with seven rebounds.

Lebowitz notched his fourth double-double of the season behind an 18-point, 10-rebound performance. He also recorded a pair of steals and a block on the defensive end. Also joining Nwadibia and Lebowitz in double figures was Pavlin with 12 points.

As a team, the Lords shot 56.3 percent (27-48) from the field, marking their best shooting night of the season. It was their second game where they shot 50 percent or better from the field this season, the other being at Case Western Reserve University on Nov. 16.

The Lords' next game will be at Wabash College on Saturday (Jan. 18) with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
