GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon women's swimming and diving team spread the wealth with its 12 total wins in Friday night's dual meet with Ohio Wesleyan University. The Ladies defeated the Battling Bishops, 135-85, in its first of two North Coast Athletic Conference duals this weekend at the Steen Aquatic Center.
Kenyon kicked off its night of success by taking the 400-yard medley relay event by more than 20 seconds. The foursome of Celia Oberholzer, Katie Kaestner, Erika Jensen, and Hillary Yarosh touched the wall in 3:55.04 to claim the first of many wins for Kenyon.
Kaestner claimed another victory in the 50-yard freestyle, edging out OWU's Olivia Gillison by 1.55 seconds with a time of 24.32.
Seniors Syd Lindblom and Rachel Flinn combined to triumph three times to represent the upperclass. Flinn put together a pair of wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.78) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.65) to lead all individual performers while Lindblom reeled in a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:29.28).
Additional individual wins came from Sarah Lloyd in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.05), Hannah Lobb in the 100-yard freestyle (53.93), Mariah Williamson in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.02), and Jenner McLeod in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.92).
Ohio Wesleyan's lone victory came in the 200-yard breaststroke where Katie Helfrich timed in at 2:29.76.
Although the Battling Bishops did not bring any divers, Maria Zarka took the opportunity to display her skills one the one- and three-meter boards. Zarka hit the 300-point mark in the three-meter dive, finishing with 300.53 points and scored 285.98 points on the one-meter, both good for first.
Kenyon rounded out the night's competition by claiming a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Kaestner, Megan Morris, Haley Townsend, and Yarosh topped the chart by 26 seconds by racing out to a 3:33.46 finish time.
The Ladies will round out their weekend with a second dual meet against Wittenberg University tomorrow at 1 p.m.
