WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's basketball team featured three scorers to hit the double-digit scoring mark, but their output was not enough to overcome No. 11 College of Wooster. The Fighting Scots reversed their recent trend with hot sharpshooting while halting the Lords' recent strand of success. Kenyon dropped to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in North Coast Athletic Conference play after its 86-56 loss at Timken Gymnasium.
Brian Lebowitz led the Lords with 14 points, 10 of which came in the first half. After going 4-of-6 from field goal range to help the Lords to a 44.4 first-half shooting percentage, Lebowitz and the rest of the Lords cooled off to a modest 28.6 percent in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots (17-3, 11-2) shot lights out from all over the court in the first half to account for their 18-point lead heading into the locker room. As a team, they hit 60 percent of their field goals and went 6-for-11 from three-point range.
The Lords kept themselves alive heading into the backend of the first half. Lebowitz scored five straight points after being fouled on a successful attack to the basket, and then followed with a second straight drive to the hoop, both assisted by Tim Connolly. However, Wooster broke out to finish the half on an 11-2 run with help from Scott Purcell and Xavier Brown's inside-out game.
The Fighting Scots kept pouring it on after the break receiving contributions from Brown, Purcell, Dan Fanelly, and Kenny DeBoer. The tandem helped build Wooster's lead to 26 points just five minutes in, a deficit the Lords could not challenge.
Joining Lebowitz in double figures were Jonathan Amador and Ikenna Nwadibia. Amandor found his stroke from behind the arc, hitting 4-of-9 three-point attempts. All 12 of his points came from long range. Nwadibia put up 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Wooster came into the game having lost two of its last three contests, both in conference play. Kenyon had won its last three games and four of its last six. Despite the loss, the Lords remain in fifth place in the NCAC standings with five games left to play.
Their next contest will be at home against Ohio Wesleyan University, who defeated Wooster nearly two weeks ago. The Lords and Battling Bishops will square off on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
