GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College senior Nate Lotze tied the Lords' program record for career runs batted in during Friday's doubleheader with the Allegheny College Gators. While the accomplishment was a bright spot for the Lords, the Gators made a couple marks of their own by sweeping the North Coast Athletic Conference East Division doubleheader by scores of 9-5 and 13-5.

Lotze, who has played first base for most of his collegiate career, already holds the Lords' record for most putouts (848) and is now just one RBI away from taking sole possession of another career record. During Friday's two games, Lotze was a combined 2-for-6 at the plate. He had three RBI in the first game and one more in the second. That pushed his team-high total to 31 RBI on the season and 121 for his career, tying the program record set by Matt Marcinczyk '06.

Unfortunately for the Lords, Lotze's output was not nearly enough to keep them in contention. In game one, the Gators posted three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings en route to a 9-5, seven-inning victory. Kenyon did get off to a good start in game one with a two-run first inning that was sparked by Lotze's first RBI of the day. On the mound, freshman Thomas Morris also started well as he retired the first six batters he faced. Over the next two innings, however, Allegheny moved ahead 6-2 by pounding out six hits and capitalizing on an error and a hit batsman.

After that, both teams scored a single run in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. For Kenyon, the first of those final three runs came on a base-loaded walk issued to Lotze. In the sixth, Connor Bingham singled, moved to third on a Phillip Nam single, and later scored on a wild pitch. Finally, in the seventh, the Lords capped all scoring when Lotze singled through the left side to drive home Kyle Hardacker.

Morris was strapped with the loss and saw his pitching record fall to 1-4. On the flip side, Allegheny starter Kyle Davis earned the win to improve to 6-1. He threw six innings and allowed four earned runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Allegheny made sure the Lords stood no chance in game two. The Gators put up two quick runs in the first inning off Kenyon starter Paul Henshaw. In the second, they put up eight more runs to move ahead 10-0 before the Lords could even chalk up their first hit. The Gators sent 11 batters to the plate during that second inning and did their damage on one walk, one Kenyon error, and five singles. They also put two on board after being hit by pitches, something Kenyon hurlers did six times during the game.

Three more runs for the Gators in the fourth inning made the lead nearly insurmountable. Kenyon, however, did not toss in the towel and chipped away at its deficit, scoring three times in the sixth inning and once each in the eighth and ninth innings.

During the bottom of the sixth, Kenyon got RBI hits from Tyler Roldan and Bingham. In between those two hits, Lotze grounded out to first, but plated Hardacker from third base to take his share of the program's RBI record.

Bingham, a freshman, wound up going 4-for-7 on the day. He had one RBI and also scored one run. Jake Dunn was 4-for-9 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Hardacker was 4-for-9 with three runs scored. Throughout the doubleheader, Kenyon's top three in the batting order were a combined 11-for-25 (.440) with seven runs scored.

Kenyon (10-18, 1-9 NCAC East) and Allegheny (20-7, 8-2 NCAC East) will square off again tomorrow with another doubleheader beginning at noon.
