INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Recent Kenyon College graduate and standout Ladies swimmer
Hannah Orbach-Mandel earned another prestigious national honor on Tuesday, as the NCAA selected her among its list of 2020 Today's Top 10 Award winners.
Orbach-Mandel is just the third Kenyon student-athlete to earn the honor. A year ago,
Julia Wilson was chosen. Carla Ainsworth, who collected the honor in 1996 when it was known as Today's Top VIII, was Kenyon's first honoree.
Nine other exceptional student-athletes across all NCAA divisions were selected by the NCAA Honors Committee, composed of representatives of NCAA member schools, conferences and distinguished citizens, including past awardees. This year's class of NCAA Top 10 Award winners will be recognized during the Honors Celebration on Wednesday, January 22 at the 2020 NCAA Convention in Anaheim, California.
Members of the NCAA Honors Committee selected the ten winners based on athletics ability and achievement, academic achievement, as well as character, leadership and activities.
Orbach-Mandel, who was also one of nine finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor, made her presence felt in the pool, the classroom and the community.
As a part of the Ladies swimming program, she earned 25 All-America certificates, won three NCAA relay national championship titles and collected eight North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) event titles. In four NCAA Championship appearances, she helped lead the Ladies to a trio of runner-up finishes. The Tucson, Arizona native also broke four College records and a trio of NCAC records during her time in Gambier.
She was twice named the team's recipient of the Shawn M. Kelly Memorial Award, presented to the swimmer who elevated Kenyon swimming to its highest team level.
Outside of athletic competition, Orbach-Mandel was a decorated economics major at the College while serving on the Kenyon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (KSAAC).
She graduated with high honors, was a four-time College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American and earned two Google Cloud Academic All-America At-Large honors. Plus, she was selected for an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2019.
Furthermore, Orbach-Mandel volunteered at Wiggin Street Elementary School, where she tutored third graders struggling with math, English and reading. She also found time to serve as a Kenyon orientation team leader and committed time to Girls and Women in Sports Day, Walk to End Alzheimer's and Relay for Life.
