Becker powers Ladies at regional championship

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- Kenyon College senior Emma Becker earned an individual 16th-place finish Saturday and directed the Kenyon College Ladies to a 15th-place team finish at the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Great Lakes Regional Championship, hosted by Franklin College.

Becker's individual showing, which came with a 22:34.5 time stamp, puts her on the verge of qualifying for her second trip to the NCAA Division III Championship. With the NCAA increasing the amount of regions this year, the committee will make its at-large selections tomorrow. At that time, Becker will know whether or not her season gets extended.

Because Becker finished within the top 35 runners she claimed All-Region honors for the second time in her career.

Saturday's regional field contained 37 scoring teams and 266 runners. Hope College won the race with 98 team points. Calvin University was second with 121 team points and John Carroll University was third with 125 points. Kenyon tallied 401 points, finishing just behind Baldwin Wallace University (387) and just ahead of Kalamazoo College (434).

Kenyon junior Anna Harnsberger also put together a solid race, taking 39th place with a time of 23:08.0. Her classmate, Ella Wilson, was the next to cross the line and she did so in 23:42.8 for a 79-place finish.

The Ladies' final two scoring runners were seniors Davida Harris and Cecily King. Harris finished 135th with a time of 25:08.7 and King finished 141st, completing the 6k course in 25:12.5.
