WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's track and field team finished sixth at the Fighting Scots Invitational, a six-team indoor track and field meet hosted by The College of Wooster. While competing in Wooster, Ohio, for the second straight weekend, the Owls notched five top-four finishes, including one first-place finish, two second-place spots, and third- and fourth-place finishes.
Wittenberg University topped the invite with 151 points. Denison University (109 points) narrowly edged out the hosting Fighting Scots (107) to form the top three. Allegheny College (77 points), Oberlin College (64 points), and Kenyon (44) points rounded out the invitational's scoring.
Per usual, Paula Soric dominated the triple jump, notching Kenyon's best finish of the meet. The sophomore scored nearly a fourth of the team's points when she recorded an 11.31-meter leap, clearing the second-place distance (10.21 meters) by over a meter.
The Owls also added a pair of runner-up finishes, with Anna Brown adding her second second-place finish in as many meets. The first-year followed up a silver spot in the 800-meter race last weekend with the second-fastest time in the 400-meter event, crossing the finish line in 1:04.24 to add eight points to Kenyon's total.
Grace Neuger maintained her upward trajectory and improved her finishing spot in the 60-meter hurdles for the third consecutive event, securing second place with a time of 10.11. The junior faced tight competition at the top, finishing just 0.2 seconds behind the first-place pace and 0.07 seconds quicker than the third-place finisher.
Erika Conant nearly added a third second-place finish for the Owls, and her 4.66-meter distance in the long jump tied for the second-best mark in the event. However, the senior settled for third after being bested in the jump-off. Conant also finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
The 4x400-meter relay produced Kenyon's fourth-place finish. The Owls clocked a 4:29.18 as Denna Medrano led off and was followed by Mary Shawaker, Brown, and Logan Vidal.
Kenyon's next time on the track will be at Wittenberg University for the Steemer Showcase, which is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28.
