GAMBIER, Ohio -- D3baseball.com released its 2023 All-America Team on the same day the organization's All-Region awards came out, and Edwin Groff became the second Kenyon College baseball player to earn All-America honors. The Owls' sophomore was selected to the All-America Second Team.
A total of 1,106 players were nominated for the 15th annual D3baseball.com All-America team, and Groff found his name on the second-highest squad of the five All-America teams. Earlier in the day, he was named to D3baseball.com's All-Region First Team for Region 7.
Groff, who also represented Kenyon on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference First Team, filled the designated hitter spot on the national team. Hitting is what the sophomore did best during his stellar season, leading the Owls in batting average (.443), OPS (1.198), at-bats (140), hits (62), doubles (16), total bases (101), and slugging percentage (.721). Additionally, Groff tied for the team lead with four triples and finished second in runs (38), RBIs (38), home runs (5), and on-base percentage (.477).
Along with pacing Kenyon at the plate, Groff also found his name at or near the top of many of the NCAC's offensive categories. His batting average led the conference, ranked 28th amongst NCAA Division III players, and is the second-highest single-season mark in Kenyon history. The DH also led the NCAC in slugging percentage, posted top-10 totals in doubles, triples, hits, home runs, OBP, and OPS, and was within the top 15 in RBIs and runs scored.
Groff's All-America honors are not only the second in the history of Kenyon baseball but also the second straight season in which a Kenyon student-athlete has been named an All-American. Groff joins Alex Gow, who earned a spot on D3baseball.com's 2022 All-America Third Team after a historic outing last season.
