GAMBIER, Ohio -- Swimming for the second time in a little over 12 hours, the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving returned to the Steen Aquatic Center to take on Denison University on Saturday morning. However, the Owls could not back up last night's win over Ohio Wesleyan University with a second victory, falling 203-97 against the Big Red in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) dual.
The visiting Big Red, ranked No. 8 in the country, had a big day, winning 13 of 16 events to break No. 4 Kenyon's streak of five straight wins in regular-season meetings between the NCAC teams.
Ethan Manske made a major impact for the Owls, winning a pair of individual events. The junior picked up Kenyon's first win of the day by setting the standard in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:50.75. Manske followed up with a victory in the dual's final individual race, winning the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:02.42.
The 400 IM was a strong event for the Owls as Kirill Sidorko followed up a strong performance against OWU with a second-place finish (4:03.54) in the final solo race. The junior also reached the podium in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing third at 1:42.30, and started the day by swimming the second leg of Kenyon's second-place 200-yard medley relay team (1:32.44). The Owls' A squad also included Djordje Dragojlovic, Neil Abrahamson, and Spencer Stluka.Â
All three Owls reached the podium multiple times, with Dragojlovic racking up a pair of solo silvers in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races before adding another relay bronze in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Roman Savage and Noel Tumbasz also tallied two second-place finishes apiece, with Savage's coming in a pair of distance races (500- and 1,000-yard freestyle) and Tumbasz's coming in both breaststroke events.
Kenyon's other individual event win came from first-year Charlie Green. Green placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (51.11) earlier in the meet, but he ended his day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard iteration, stopping the clock at 1:50.36.
On the diving boards, Owen Peterson picked up a pair of second-place finishes. He scored 238.20 points over six one-meter dives to tie for second, and he held sole possession of silver after compiling a total of 261.83 on the three-meter board.
After competing in two dual meets on back-to-back days, the Owls will have to wait until 2025 to compete in their next dual. However, Kenyon has a lot of swimming to do between now and the new year as the Owls will welcome teams to Gambier for the annual Total Performance Swim Camps Invitational from November 21-23.
