Kenyon men wind up eighth at NCAC Championship

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College Owls scored 20 more points Saturday, the second and final day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. That output, tacked on to the team's previous 25 points, gave the Owls a total of 45 points and an eighth-place finish in the final team standings.

Senior Riley Orth's performances in the throws highlighted the Kenyon results. After taking fourth place in the discus yesterday, Orth returned to the pit and whipped up a win in the shot put, as well as a third-place showing in the hammer throw. Orth, alone, accounted for 21 points for Kenyon.

In the shot put, Orth took the conference title for the third year in a row. His winning throw traveled 50-8 ¼ (15.45 meters). In the hammer, his best attempt measured 166-0 (50.61 meters), which went down as a new program record, eliminating the old mark of 163-5, which he set last week.

Other point-scorers for Kenyon on Saturday included senior Collin Witt and first-year Arthur Wellenstein. Witt whipped around the oval for a seventh-place time of 1:01.48 in the 400-meter dash and Wellenstein ran the 1,500-meter race in a personal-best 4:03.79 to take eighth place.

That left the Owls' 4x400-meter relay team to conclude the scoring. The quartet of Jonathan Turner, Peter Bernhardt, Vaughn Hajra and Wellenstein crossed the line in 3:33.45 to take eighth place.
