Owls start outdoor slate at Emory Classic

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Kenyon College men's track and field team took part in the Emory University Spring Break Classic, starting the squad's outdoor season. Sophomore Charlie Blackmer brought in Kenyon's best finish across the two-day meet, pacing the field in Friday's 5,000-meter invitational. The Owls also added a few other top-15 finishes to open the spring slate.

No stranger to placing toward the top over his first two seasons, Blackmer led the pack in the 5,000-meter invitational to start the outdoor season strong. The sophomore cruised to a first-place finish, pacing the field by a whopping 4.21 seconds after crossing the finish line at 14:52.14. The time also marked a career-best for Blackmer.

The 5,000-meter was a big event for the Owls, as two more Kenyon runners placed within the top-14 finishers. Colt Murphy corralled one of two other top-10 Owls finishes at the meet, placing 10th with a time of 15:12.79. Fellow senior Dylan Sibbitt stopped the clock at 15:26.31 to finish 14th, and Sibbitt's time stands as his career-best showing.

In field events, Graham Yeager landed Kenyon's second-best placement across the two days of competition. The sophomore had a strong showing in Saturday's discus throw, slotting in at eighth place. Yeager's best toss landed 44.61 meters (146-4) out. On Friday, the Owls landed another top-14 finish in the field thanks to J'Sun Gardner. The senior placed 14th in the javelin throw, where his best attempt measured 44.53 meters (146-1).

Kenyon's other top-15 finish came in another longer race. In the 1,500-meter open, Dylan Ryznar ran the fastest 1,500 of his career to secure a 15th-place finish. The sophomore's career-best time came in at 4:07.69.

The Owls' next meet is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, when Kenyon will head to nearby Denison University to compete in the Denison Lid-Lifter.
