Fadely sets NCAA record during DI double-dual

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Competing against a pair of NCAA Division I opponents, the Kenyon College women's and swimming diving team nearly pulled off a split in a double-dual that spanned Friday and Saturday. The Owls, however, lost to host Princeton University, 241-112, and were edged by the U.S. Naval Academy, 178-175.

The Owls had nine top-three event finishes, but the highlight of the two-day, three-team event occurred Friday night, when Kenyon senior Jennah Fadely won the 100-yard breaststroke in an NCAA Division III record time of 59.62. She topped the previous record of 59.77 set by Denison University's KT Kustritz during the 2018 season. Additionally, Fadely topped the Kenyon record of 59.80, which she set last season.

Fadely accounted for another Kenyon event win on Saturday, as she claimed first place in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her winning time of 2:11.53 was a season-best and cleared the NCAA 'B' cut for the event. Classmate Gabrielle Wei was right behind her, taking second place in 2:12.21, which was also a season-best and NCAA 'B' qualifying time.

On Friday, Wei also placed second to Fadely in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:01.05 for another season-best and another 'B' cut.

Other runner-up finishes for the Owls on Friday were earned in relay competition. The foursome of Gwen Eisenbeis, Kate Bogan, Fadely, and Sydney Geboy opened the meet by putting up a 1:33.10 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Later, Geboy and Wei paired with Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault and Celia Ford for a second-place time of 3:44.20 in the 400-yard medley relay.

In Saturday relay events, Kenyon logged one more second-place showing. This time it was in the 200-yard medley relay in which Eisenbeis, Fadely, Ford, and Torrecillas-Jouault worked together to finish in a season-best 1:41.09.

Throughout the competition, the Owls had third-place finishes turned in by Molly Haag and Nora Lee Brown. Haag hit that mark with a season-best and NCAA 'B' time of 1:50.14 in the 200-yard freestyle. Brown then took bronze in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:13.73.

In diving, Olive O'Dorisio and Naomi Kennel were Kenyon's top finishers. O'Dorisio earned a score of 201.70 on the one-meter board and placed eighth. On the three-meter board, Kennel chalked up a score of 217.15 to claim seventh place.

The Owls have some time away from competition with their next meet scheduled for January 31, when they'll host the NCAA Division I RedHawks from Miami (OH) University for a Senior Day meet beginning at 1 p.m.
