GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team celebrated its Senior Day at home on Friday afternoon while hosting a dual for the final time this regular season. The Owls welcomed NCAA Division I Miami University (OH) to the Steen Aquatic Center, and the RedHawks handed the hosts a 167-74 defeat.
The class of seven competing seniors celebrated before the dual included Sam Brown, Philip Howard, Aleksa Kisic, Ian Lipton, Andre McCloud, James Tracey, and Cam Williston.
Kenyon's lone win came in the dual's penultimate race, the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Noel Tumbasz touched the wall first after a 55.78-second swim, clearing the competition by 0.24 seconds to take first place.
Though the RedHawks claimed the top spot in every other event, the Owls secured a spot on the podium in every swimming event. Overall, the home team combined for eight second-place showings and six third-place finishes. Kenyon took two of the top three spots in four races.
Outside of Tumbasz, who also contributed to a third-place finish in the team's 200-yard medley relay, juniors Djordje Dragojlovic and Ethan Manske had the most success for the Owls. Dragojlovic placed second in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races and capped the dual by anchoring Kenyon's second-place 400-yard freestyle relay team. His time of 20.59 in the 50 freestyle was just 0.13 seconds behind the pace, and he was even closer in the 100, finishing just 0.06 seconds behind first at 44.88.Â
Manske touched second in two other freestyle races, the 200- and the 500-yard iterations. His time of 1:40.05 in the 200 was a team-best this season and was just 0.26 seconds slower than first place. He stopped the clock at 4:34.79 in the 500, just over a second behind the pace.
Other Owls to secure individual second-place finishes throughout the dual included Matthew Weiner, Roman Savage, and Charlie Green. Weiner came second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:23.16), Savage's silver came in the 100-yard butterfly (49.15), and Green was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (49.58). The Owls squad of Neil Abrahamson, Kirill Sidorko, Teo Jaworski, and Dragojlovic also finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:02.43. On the boards, first-year James Lackner finished fourth at both heights.
Kenyon wastes no time getting back in action as the team is set to be back in the pool in less than 24 hours for their final regular-season dual. The No. 6-ranked Owls will head to Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, February 1, for a 1 p.m. dual against the No. 14-ranked Spartans.
