Owls sink Blue Streaks in NCAC dual

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team greeted John Carroll University to the North Coast Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Streaks, competing in their first-ever NCAC dual meet, were no match for the host Owls, who breezed to 212-84 victory.

Sixteen events were contested, including two relays and two diving events, and the Owls won all but two of them.

In relays, Kenyon's quartet of Djordje Dragojlovic, Noel Tumbasz, Roman Savage, and Spencer Stluka whipped up a winning time of 1:30.06 in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. At the end of the meet, Dragojlovic, Savage, and Stluka added Neil Abrahamson and, together, they won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:03.11.

On the diving boards, Kenyon first-year Chase Smith topped both the one-meter and three-meter standings. He won the one-meter with a score of 507.45 and then took the three-meter with a score of 310.12.

In between those events, Kenyon individual swimmers claimed 10 event crowns. Dragojlovic and Savage paced the team. With two relay wins to his credit, Dragojlovic, a senior, cranked out wins in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. He got to the wall first in both those races with respective times of 20.20 and 45.23.

Savage, also a senior, put up two more wins, as well. He won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:50.69 and then finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.02. With Dragojlovic and Savage adding to their relay wins, Tumbasz was not to be left out. He contributed another Kenyon win in the 200-yard breaststroke, completing that race in 2:04.89.

Seniors Ethan Manske and Teo Jaworski accounted for two more Kenyon wins. Manske was first in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking in at 4:02.86 and Jaworski was first in the 200-yard freestyle, turning in the top time of 1:40.27.

The rest of the Kenyon winners were newcomers to the team. Transfer Owen Von Weihe was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:40.08), first-year Kristof Szappanos took the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.63), and first-year Gabriel Cowart was fastest in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.40).
