Kenyon men open season at Indy Quad

INDIANAPOLIS – The Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2025-2026 season on Saturday afternoon in a rare quad meet, taking on NCAA Division II opponents Nova Southeastern University, Carson-Newman University, and the University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis.

Although the Owls could not pick up any wins on the day, several swimmers logged top ten finishes, highlighted by four apiece from Djordje Dragojlovic and Roman Savage along with a win in the one meter diving from first-year Chase Smith

The pair of Dragojlovic and Savage teamed up twice in the afternoon, with their best effort coming in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The duo joined Noel Tumbasz and Peter Dunson for a 3:08.62 finish, good enough for fifth place. They also paired up with Teo Jaworski and Neil Abrahamson in the 200 yard medley relay, where the Owls took tenth with a 1:33.55 marker.

Savage gave Kenyon its best individual finish of the meet in the 100 yard butterfly. The junior turned in a 51.13 time and placed fourth. He also added an eighth-place finish to his outing, clocking a 1:44.55 in the 200 yard freestyle.

Matching Savage with a team-high four top tens, Dragojlovic's best individual event of the day was the 50 yard freestyle, where he took home fifth with a 21.23 time. To close his sheet, the senior added a tenth place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, where he sped to a 47.19 mark.

After joining the Kenyon 'A' relay in the 200 yard medley, Tumbasz tallied two more finishes inside the top ten. He first came in the 100 yard breaststroke, where he snuck in just under a minute at 59.84 for an eighth place finish. At 2:14.51, he added a ninth place in the 200 yard breaststroke, adding to perhaps Kenyon's best individual event of the day, where Andrew Bier finished eighth and Walker Bailey took tenth.

Sophomore Owen Von Weihe made a strong season debut for the Owls, making two top ten finishes in two different strokes. In the 200 yard butterfly, he finished in seventh with a 1:56.40 time, while in the 500 yard freestyle, he showcased his endurance with a 4:47.66 mark, good enough for tenth place.

Another strong individual finish came from senior Ethan Manske. His sixth place finish in the 200 yard individual medley was the team's third best of the day, as he cruised to a 1:58.89.

In diving, first-year Chase Smith had an excellent debut, taking first place in the one meter boards. He topped a field of five other divers for a score of 450.30. James Lackner also represented well amongst the NCAA Division II talent, taking third with a 370.73 score.

In the end, Kenyon fell to Nova Southeastern 93-176, to Carson-Newman 112-157, and to Indianapolis 46-235.

The Kenyon divers will be back in action on October 10 to participate in the Don Leas Diving Invite in Clarion Pennsylvania. The rest of the Owls will head back to Gambier for a North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet with John Carroll University on October 18 at noon from the Steen Aquatic Center.
