Kenyon defense shines, but Owls can’t tame Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Kenyon College football team played in its final regular season game of 2025 on Saturday afternoon, facing off against Wittenberg University on the road.

Despite nearly matching the team's season high with four forced turnovers on defense, the Owls could not back it up with points on the offensive end, falling to the Tigers 35-0.

The Kenyon defense shined throughout the contest and was able to make some big plays to keep the team within reach, forcing three turnovers in the first half. After Wittenberg broke through to take a 6-0 lead near the end of the first quarter, Nathaniel Correa picked off Tigers QB JJ Miller to give the Owls the ball back. The interception marked the first of the sophomore's career.

Wittenberg scored another touchdown in the second quarter to go up 13-0, but Kenyon again responded with another turnover. Sam Finnerty grabbed his second interception of the season, but the Owls failed to capitalize with points. Kenyon swiped its third TO of the first half two drives later, when Dominic Simpson punched out a ball which was recovered by Alex Knight

A pick six on the other end just before the break gave the Tigers their third touchdown and a 20-0 lead which they would take to the half.

After halftime, the defense continued to force takeaways, but the offense just couldn't get going. Aidan Jones added to the stat sheet with his first career interception and lateraled the ball to Simpson for a nice return, but the offense couldn't convert on the other end. After Wittenberg scored again and converted the two point conversion just into the fourth quarter and added another touchdown on its next possession, the deficit grew to 35-0.

On the Tigers' next offensive possession, a seven play drive came to a halt thanks to two big stops by Andrew Pohlman, stuffing the run on third and fourth down to get the ball back to Kenyon. The Owls had one more chance to try and get some points, but the eight play drive ended in a punt to end the game.

Starting quarterback Ryan Dean's statline ended up at three for 20 for 42 yards and four interceptions. Nolan Dirks headlined the rushing attack with eight attempts for 27 yards, while Jordon Benjamin and Julius Thompson each had 13. Damian Snell led the receivers with two receptions for 34 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Simpson led the squad with 14 tackles, while Finnerty was not far behind with 11 to go along with one sack.
