Owls take care of Ohio Wesleyan for second time

GAMBIER, Ohio – Taking on Ohio Wesleyan University in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) dual for the second time this season, the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team took on the Bishops on Saturday morning from Gambier. 

The Owls captured 12 first place finishes on the day, cruising to a 171-36 victory in the end to beat the Bishops once again and move to 3-1 in the conference. 

Ethan Manske picked up Kenyon's first win of the day in the 200 freestyle, where he was victorious by over seven seconds clocking in at 1:39.48. Neil Abrahamson (1:46.90) and Joshua Hession (1:46.94) were second and third in what was the first of several podium sweeps.

In the 100 breaststroke, Leo Karnitz led the charge with a 56.12 mark, while Walker Bailey and Roman Savage rounded out the top three with 57.53 and 58.72 respectively. Another podium sweep came in the 200 butterfly, as Lucas Macy touched the wall in 1:53.45 to take first, and Conner Verbanas (1:55.66) and Matthew Weiner (1:58.50) took second and third in that order. 

Andre McCloud sped to a 21.24 first place finish in the 50 freestyle, while two other Owls, Lars Rauch and Thomson Parlette, took second and third finishing less than a half second behind. Backing up to the 100 freestyle, Pedro Mello Araujo took home the crown with a 46.18 finish, while Michael Baltonado (47.09) and Hession (47.53) finished next. 

Verbanas captured his first win with a 1:59.55 finish in the 200 backstroke, with Daniel Yarbo (2:00.08) and Weiner (2:00.12) next for another sweep. Bailey added his first win in the next event, clocking in at 2:06.59 in the 200 breaststroke. 

Two more podium sweeps came in the next two events for Kenyon, with Teo Jaworski winning the 100 butterfly in 50.43, and Karnitz gaining his second win in the 100 individual medley in 50.99. Jaworski teamed up with Mathilde LeBlanc for a first place finish in the mixed 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:30.95 for the final win in the pool. 

On the boards, Chase Smith came away with victories in both the one and three meter dives. In the one meter, he racked up a 312.30 mark and tallied 290.10 in the three meter. 

Up next, the Owls will head to Annapolis, Maryland for a three team dual against the University of Delaware, Navy and Princeton University on January 9 to ring in the new year.
