Kenyon men log personal bests at home Invite

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Hosting three other teams in Friday night's unscored First Chance Invitational, the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team looked to improve times in order to qualify additional swimmers for next month's national meet.
The Owls were not able to register any NCAA 'B' cuts, but did manage to post some personal records throughout the night.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Kenyon sent out a wave of ten swimmers. Sophomore Peter Dunson was the quickest, clocking in at 20.67, but it was senior Andre McCloud who posted a personal best time of 21.09, just clipping his previous best of 21.11. Later, McCloud shaved a little more time off, going 21.03 in a time trial.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, first-year Leo Karnitz was another Owl that turned in an impressive swim. He clocked in at 56.68, which was the best time among three other Kenyon swimmers and was also a personal record, eclipsing his previous best of 58.14. In the same race, Karnitz's classmate, Lars Rauch, clocked in at 1:02.27 for yet another personal record, topping his previous best by nearly two seconds.

Noel Tumbasz was Kenyon's best in the 100-yard butterfly (51.50), Djordje Dragojlovic was tops in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.85), Matthew Weiner was fastest in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.22) and Nicholas Theodos was the fastest Owl swimmer in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.79).

Kenyon swimmers will have more chances tomorrow, when it hosts the Fast Chance Invitational, beginning at noon.
