Lackner wraps up Owls diving season at regionals

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team did its last bit of diving for the 2024-25 season on Saturday at the 2025 NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championships. The two-day meet wrapped up with one-meter diving at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatics Center, where James Lackner represented the Owls.

Lacker landed in 17th place after the one-meter scores were tabulated. After two days of dives, the first-year will have to wait to make his way onto Kenyon's NCAA Men's Division III Swimming & Diving Championship roster as only six of the 17 Region 1 divers qualified for nationals.

Lackner tallied 367.85 points over 11 dives, with eight of his leaps scoring more than 30 points. His ninth showing produced the best results, an inward 1 ½ somersault pike that added 40.80 points to his total. The result narrowly edged out his sixth dive, a forward 1 ½ somersault pike that was worth 39.00 points. Lackner's fourth dive sparked a stretch of five straight dives that all scored over 31 points. The fourth attempt saw the judges award six 7.0s and one 7.5 score, his best mark on the judge's cards of the day.

Though no Kenyon divers will be with the team at the upcoming NCAA Championship, the Owls are still going as 10 swimmers will represent the College at the national meet in Greensboro, North Carolina, from March 19-22.
