Owls trio tabbed to All-NCAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Following a balloting of the league's coaches, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) released its annual All-NCAC Baseball Team on Thursday. Three Kenyon College Owls earned all-conference honors as Lewis Cropper, Parker Gibbons, and Nate Rosen all appeared on the All-NCAC Third Team. Rosen received his second straight All-NCAC award, while Cropper and Gibbons garnered the recognition for the first time.

The senior trio was part of a senior class that had one of the best four-year stretches in program history. This year's squad finished with a 15-15-1 record and an 8-7-1 mark in NCAC play, and the program put up win totals of 22, 21, and 23 over the last three seasons.

Rosen registered a repeat appearance on the All-NCAC Third Team after another season as one of the team's most consistent players. The shortstop suited up for all 31 games, starting each of them. Over his career, Rosen started all 134 of the games he played, appearing in all but seven of the team's outings over his four-year career. The team captain paced the Owls with 23 walks and led qualified hitters with a .421 on-base percentage. He also ranked second on the team in runs (26) and doubles (8), third in hits (38), RBIs (20), and total bases (54), and was third amongst qualified hitters in batting average (.322), slugging percentage (.458) and on-base plus slugging (.879).

Cropper collected his career's first All-NCAC award after stepping up as one of the pitching staff's best arms. The senior bounced back from an injury-riddled junior season to make 10 appearances with seven starts, posting a career-best 4-1 record. His 2.47 ERA was the lowest since a 2.38 mark in five appearances as a first-year, and this year's ERA led qualified Kenyon hurlers and ranked fifth amongst qualified NCAC pitchers. His .204 batting average allowed to opponents also ranked fifth in the conference and led the Owls. The big righty also paced Kenyon with a 0.98 WHIP, tied for first with 43.2 innings pitched, and ranked third with 26 strikeouts.

Gibbons garnered All-NCAC honors after a breakout senior season. After playing 32 combined games over his first three years, Gibbons started all 31 of Kenyon's games this season. In the batter's box, the lefty hitter raked all year, leading qualified Owls with a .368 batting average, 43 hits, nine doubles, 67 total bases, a .573 slugging percentage, and a .979 OPS. Gibbons also ranked second in triples (3), third in runs (21) and on-base percentage (.406), and tied for third with three home runs. Amongst NCAC leaders, he is tied for third in triples and ranks sixth in batting average. After playing mostly as a designated hitter last season, Gibbons stepped in as the team's everyday center fielder and posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 64 chances, one of five qualified NCAC players with a flawless fielding percentage.
