Box Score CLAREMONT, Cailf. -- For a second straight day, Kenyon College's Eleni Lazaridou represented the Owls at the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championship. The junior earned her spot in Sunday's quarterfinal round with two wins on a busy opening day, but Lazaridou could not maintain her momentum against the tournament's No. 2 seed, Emily Kantrovitz.
Lazaridou and Kantrovitz, the No. 1-ranked singles player in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DIII singles standings, went back and forth to start the match. Lazaridou landed two games in the early going, but Kantrovitz pulled away, quickly going from a 4-2 edge to a 6-2 first-set victory.
The Emory University Eagle maintained that momentum into the second set, breaking Lazaridou's set-starting serve and building a commanding 5-0 edge. Lazaridou had something left in the tank, however, as the ITA's No. 13-ranked player staved off elimination with a win in the sixth game. Unfortunately, her win did not translate into a comeback, as Kantrovitz claimed the next game to clinch the 6-2, 6-1 sweep.
Though Lazaridou was likely headed towards an ITA All-America award no matter what, she clinched the honor with a win on Saturday in the singles bracket. Lazaridou is now a three-time All-American after earning both singles and doubles honors as a first-year in 2023. After going 2-1 in this year's NCAA Singles Championship, the junior has a career 5-2 record on the national stage, tying for the top winning percentage in program history and the second-most NCAA singles wins by a Kenyon women's tennis player. Overall, she ends her junior campaign with a 17-3 singles record.
