Kenyon contends across the board at Division I quad dual

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Looking for a tune up against a group of NCAA Division I teams, the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team took on the U.S. Naval Academy, Princeton University and the University of Delaware in a quad dual from Annapolis, Maryland over the weekend.

The Owls were able to contend in a number of events and log several top times across two days of events, despite falling to Navy 63-290, Princeton 59-294 and Delaware 149-204 in the end.

On Friday, the team's best finish came in the first event of the day, where Djordje Dragojlovic, Neil Abrahamson, Spencer Stluka and Peter Dunson joined forces for a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

Noel Tumbasz came back later in the night with a sixth place finish in the 100 breaststroke, logging a 54.84 time and just earning a NCAA 'B' cut. Tumbasz teamed up with Dunson, Dragojlovic and Roman Savage for a 3:20.00 time in the 400 medley relay, earning eighth place.

Individually, Kristof Szappanos clocked in at 50.12 for the 100 backstroke, good enough for ninth place, while Dragojlovic sped to a 10th place finish in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 20.38.

Kenyon added seven more top ten finishes on Saturday, the highest coming again in a relay, where Dunson, Tumbasz, Savage and Stluka finished at 1:29.48 in the 200 medley relay, narrowly missing out on a 'B' cut.

Two seventh place finishes came in the 100 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay, with Dragojlovic getting involved in both. He earned a 44.54 time individually, good enough for a 'B' cut, and teamed up with Savage, Teo Jaworski and Neil Abrahamson for a 3:01.56 time in the relay. In the same event, Stluka, Dunson, Lars Rauch and Pedro Mello Araujo finished not far behind, taking ninth with a 3:06.36 mark.

Tumbasz backed up the distance from Friday to take eighth in the 200 breaststroke, finishing at 2:02.47. Ethan Manske closed out the team's individual events with a tenth place in the 200 backstroke, where he sped to a 1:49.24.

Chase Smith led the Owls on both days at the diving boards, highlighted by a fifth place performance in the one meter dive on Friday, amassing 279.80 points. On Saturday's three meter, he totalled 270.45 points en route to an eighth place finish.

Kenyon has two more events before the North Coast Athletic Conference championships, the first coming on January 23 at 4:00 p.m. where the team will host Case Western Reserve University at the Steen Aquatic Center.
