Owls fall 1-nil to Gators

Meadville, PA – The Kenyon College field hockey team (5-6, 4-2) dropped a 1-nil conference loss to the Allegheny Gators (6-6, 4-2) this Saturday. With both teams seeded top-four of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) standings, this was a tightly contested match-up until the final whistle.

The first-half of the game had the Owls on their heels with goalkeeper, Sofia Chaves, coming out to make six big saves. After half-time, the Kenyon team rebounded quickly and outshot the Gators, 7-6.

During the third quarter, Kenyon had four penalty corners, but was unable to capitalize after some close shot attempts from Gigi Johnson and Casey Master. Then, Allegheny was awarded a penalty corner where inserter, Maddy Keenan, put the ball into play in the 33rd minute, finding Cora Miranda and then goal scorer Jamie Marchewka.

The Owls led the attack during the last ten minutes of the game, getting several more shots off and taking some dangerous corners. Senior forward, Maren Lawrence, led the team with having the most shots on target (2).

Chaves made seven total saves and the Owls offense forced the Gators' goalkeeper, Rowan O'Toole, to make five.

Kenyon field hockey will be back in action on Thursday, Oct 15 at 6 p.m. as they take on Denison University for the first night game under the new stadium lights on Benson Bowl.
