Kenyon handles Centre to remain undefeated

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Kenyon College men's tennis team began its 15-game road trip on Friday night, taking on Centre College in the first of two games this weekend from Danville.

Battling through an over five hour match, the Owls were able to come away with a 6-1 victory to remain undefeated for the season.

The No.1 duo of Paulo Pocasangre Kreling and Alejandro Gonzalez were pushed to the brink in their match, eventually taking the 7-6 victory. Eliezer Gonzalez and Jay Kedar Dixit teamed up for the No. 2 flight, dispatching their opponent handily 6-1. Kenyon completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory in the third flight, where Stylianos Papamichael and Juozas Cioladis came away victorious.

Similar to the No.1 doubles match, Pocasangre Kreling was pushed to a third set in the No.1 singles match. He came away with the win in the first set 7-6 before falling in the second set 6-7. In the third tiebreaker set, the senior took care of business with a 6-2 win.

Cioladis took the No. 2 singles in a sweep, winning 6-3 in the opening set and coming away with 6-4 win in the second set. A similar result unfolded in the fourth flight, where Papamichael dispatched his opponent 6-2, 6-2. Kedar Dixit fell in a three set thriller in the third flight, falling in the opener 6-1 before taking the second set 7-5. Despite a great fight, a 6-4 loss gave the Colonels their lone point of the night.

In the sixth flight, Sree Kondaveeti handled his opponent with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. To close the night, E. Gonzalez ended with a three set battle in the No. 5 flight. The senior took the first set 6-4 before falling 7-6 in the second set. He dominated the tiebreaking set to set the 6-1 final.

The Owls now move to 6-0 on the season. The squad will be back in action for a matchup against No. 33-ranked Washington and Lee University, the neutral site contest getting under way at 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
